Coaching Practicum

Ready for the Next Level?

Continue your coach training and move to the QuickStep Professional Coaching Program!

Ready to Earn a Coaching Credential?

This Coaching Practicum is designed for students who have taken the Life Coaching CLINIC and wish to continue into the full QuickStep Professional Coaching Program. This 6.5-hour program will briefly review the Coaching BRIDGE model and then provide additional coaching practice sessions. Once completed, students are eligible to enroll in the second half of the QuickStep Professional Coaching Program.

Since 80 – 90% of all coaching is done by way of telephone, and requires a different set of listening skills, this course is taught by Teleclass using a telephone bridge line.

2019 Practicum Dates:

November 7-21, 2019  (Thursdays 7-9 pm) – Teleclass

2020 Practicum Dates:

May 14-28, 2020  (Thursdays 7-9 pm) – Teleclass

Limited Class Size:

This class is limited to six students so everyone has a chance to coach and be coached.  Practicing your coaching by phone and hearing someone else be coached is the best way to improve your coaching skills!

The Life Coaching Clinic or similar training of at least 16 hours of approved coach-specific training based on the ICF Core Competencies is a PREREQUISITE for this course.

If you submit training other than QuickStep’s Life Coaching Clinic, use the Get in Touch form below to provide proof of training (list your training, where you received it with their contact number).

Weekly Schedule:

This teleclass meets once a week from 7- 9 pm for 3 weeks.

  • Week 1:  Review of The Coaching BRIDGE model, and Practice
  • Week 2:  Students apply the coaching concept of “refining the goal” for each coaching session, and Practice
  • Week 3:  Students contrast the difference between face-to-face coaching and telephone coaching, and Practice
Class Structure:
  • 30 minutes – Topic discussion and Q&A
  • 45 minutes – First round of practice coaching and feedback
  • 45 minutes – Second round of practice coaching and feedback
Class Participation:

Each person will have the opportunity to coach and be coached. When you are not coaching, you should be an active observer, so please do not put your attention on other “tasks.”  Active observers are required to provide feedback so that everyone can grow from the experience. At the end of each coaching session, we will verbally offer feedback and everyone should contribute.

Course Requirements:
  • Attend and participate in all 3 live teleclass sessions and complete all assignments.
  • You must coach and be coached at least once during the course.
  • When not coaching, provide feedback on observed coaching sessions.
What if I don't get what I need?

“We pledge to do our best to support you throughout your training and request that if you are not getting what you need and want, please let us know. Note that this is the same request that we make of our coaching clients. Please help us serve you well.”

The Coaching Practicum

The Coaching Practicum is approved by the International Coach Federation as ACSTH (Approved Coach Specific Training Hours), and guarantees that this course will apply toward an ICF coaching credential via the ICF ACSTH Path.
